by Pets Dinner

-

You are an Enquirer, an officer of the Imperial Office of Enquiry.

The galactic Empire of Earth is in chaos: the Emperor has disappeared and the Empire has fractured into many competing factions, each of whom believes that they are either independent from or in charge of all the others. The galaxy is awash with traitors, pirates scumbags and weirdos.

Do your best to survive.

Welcome to The Enquirer!

The Enquirer is an action-packed, running and gunning game set in a dismal future, inspired by Games Workshop's 2001 game Inquisitor by Gav Thorpe. The Enquirer is a modern and streamlined reimagining of this classic game, with pulse-pumping action at its heart! Buy your Enquirer guns, ammo and armour! Upgrade their equipment and themselves with gadgets, tech and bionics!

The game is in something of an alpha phase so I welcome feedback! If you have any questions, let me know! If you play the game, let me know how your session went!

Supplied in A4 and Letter size PDFs. Print it out and fold it into quarters for a slim and convenient game you can carry with you!

I had some observations about this project.

The White text on white backgrounds for your Headers is difficult to read. If the text or background (Text would be easier) was darker, it would help.

It seems impossible to injure people with light pistols? 1D6 will always fail the lowest toughness of 7. (Now I see Critical hits, but still.)

The ranges seem really arbitrary. Perhaps having Close, Near and Far would be more straightforward.

Thanks for your comment!

As for injuries, they are based on the target's Toughness Factor, not their Toughness Score, so a Toughness of 7 has a Factor of 3. Additionally, Toughness is not damage reduction nor a damage threshold so you always cause at least 1 injury as long as you cause at least 1 point of damage (after reducing for armour).

A character receives 1 injury to a location for every time they take an amount of damage equal to or less than their Toughness Factor.

As for the ranges, the point is to neither accurately nor even approximately simulate a ground scale. The point is to make players interact with the terrain in ways that are interesting and dramatic: open spaces are dangerous, can you make it across the gap without getting shot? Crowded areas offer more protection but also make your shots more difficult, will you cower in cover or move and fire bit by bit?

I do hope to have a fuller version out later that will offer greater rules clarity as well as improved presentation and fonts so I hope you will stick around for that! Thanks again for your feedback, I appreciate it!
